Your exciting summer adventures await at Pine Grove Library. Yes, that’s right! On July 22, about 15 children and their families launched a week-long summer reading program at the Pine Grove Public Library. The event, held at the nearby Triumph Center hall, featured unique crafts, giant soap bubbles, a story time session, and snacks for the kids.
Missy Ensinger, the librarian at Pine Grove Library, shared that they strive to run a summer reading program every year, typically during the last week of July. The theme for this year was “Adventure Begins at the Library.” The program concluded with a fun, water-themed day at the Byrd Community, complete with bubbles, squirt guns, Slip ‘n Slides, and sprinklers.
Ensinger emphasizes the importance of the summer reading program as it encourages children to enjoy reading and acquaints them with the library’s resources. “Especially since everything is available online, I’ve had kids come in and ask, ‘Is this your store?'” she noted. She then explains the process of obtaining a free library card, which allows them to borrow books and access free online reading materials, such as books and magazines, at most libraries across West Virginia.
The library also hosts a story hour every Saturday at noon, featuring a craft, a story, and a snack, open to children of all ages. For teenagers, there is a free Dungeons and Dragons group, often accompanied by a pizza snack. Seniors can participate in a craft program at the Byrd Place. Additionally, the library provides GED testing, wireless internet access, and computers.
“We try to offer programs for everyone,” Ensinger said. The library’s hours of operation are noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sundays. Meeting spaces are available for groups or clubs, like the Weight Watchers club that meets on Monday evenings.
